The theme of this year's European Heritage Days 2022 is Sustainable Heritage.

It supports the focus on the active role of communities that build a more sustainable and resilient future of European heritage in the context of environmental changes and related risks.

This year, up to 50,000 events aim to recognize the value of common European heritage and the need to preserve it for current and future generations.
A wide range of cultural activities (exhibitions, workshops, performances, guided tours) promoting sustainable heritage while respecting wildlife and biodiversity will take place across Europe in the coming weeks.

Given the importance of historic buildings in relation to local identity, this year's events will focus on ways to protect heritage by preserving and restoring historic buildings using traditional techniques, skills and materials as part of socially and environmentally sustainable urban development.

European Heritage Days are a joint initiative of the Council of Europe and the European Commission since 1999 and are among the most famous interactive cultural events in Europe. The pan-European nature of the program brings together those living in Europe and relies on the European dimension of cultural heritage as contained in the European Cultural Convention.
