The European Commission has published the second set of calls for proposals under the Connecting Europe Facility Digital, with a budget of 277 million euros.
The aim of the call is to support projects for secure, high-speed and high-capacity networks, infrastructure backbones, including quantum communication, cloud federation and submarine cables, to strengthen networks connecting rural, remote and overseas areas, as well as to increasingly digitize transport and energy networks. The funds will be specifically focused on projects aimed at strengthening the backbone connectivity infrastructure Europe and with international partners in the context of the global gateway strategy.
The Commission will also allocate funds for projects aimed at equipping key service providers in local communities and major traffic routes with 5G connectivity. Finally, calls will focus on projects connecting cloud providers and vertical use-case communities, in the interest of establishing an EU-level cloud federation, quantum communication infrastructure, as well as preparatory measures for the establishment of operational digital platforms for transport and energy infrastructure across of the EU.
Calls are open to companies, public administrations and entities from EU member states, overseas territories and countries associated with the program.
The application deadline is February 23, 2023.

One of the calls that could be of particular interest to the local community is 5G for smart communities with a budget of 50 million euros.
The call supports projects that take advantage of the new opportunities provided by 5G networks, with the aim of providing a new, efficient and more resilient public service.
