NetZeroCities opened on September 5, 2022. Call to join the program - Pilot cities. It is a revolutionary program that tests new approaches to achieving climate neutrality goals in all cities in Europe. Within the framework of the EU Mission for 100 climate-neutral and smart cities ("EU Mission for Cities"), the Pilot Cities program provides EUR 32 million in grants and practical support to cities.

The call was originally supposed to be closed on November 4, 2022. However, due to the great interest of the cities and the complexity of submitting the application, a decision was made to extend the deadline for submission until November 15, 2022. at 12:00 CET. This will allow cities to properly complete their requests and successfully submit their proposals on the online submission tool.

The Pilot Cities Program will assist cities as they test locally adapted climate transition measures. The selected cities will be provided with grants financed under the Horizon 2020 program, the European Commission's framework program for research and innovation for the period 2014-2020. The cities will receive support in the amounts of 0.5 million euros, 1 million euros or 1, 5 million euros to introduce and expand research and innovation and system solutions. The call is addressed to cities that commit to the objectives of the EU Mission for Cities and are located in EU member states and associated countries.

The NetZeroCities consortium and a dedicated online platform will provide expertise and support services to the selected pilot cities and help them take an inclusive system-level approach to climate neutrality. The cities' pilot activities will be diverse, consisting of social, cultural, technological, natural, regulatory and financial innovations, as well as new approaches to business and management.
