Within the framework of the program: Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) the Call: 5G for Smart Communities (CEF-DIG-2022-5GSMARTCOM) has been opened.

The goal of this call is to support the early deployment of 5G network-based systems that enable use cases for specific socioeconomic drivers (SEDs). In the context of this call, the targeted SEDs are public bodies that execute public authorities and public or private entities entrusted with the performance of services of general interest or services of general economic interest.

Projects financed under this call are expected to:

• Implement a 5G infrastructure capable of providing superior connectivity with characteristics (such as gigabit performance, high user density, ubiquitous coverage, IoT device connectivity capacity, low latency and reliability) capable of supporting innovative ways of improving public service delivery and SGI or SSEI.

• Where necessary, connect deployed 5G networks with a cloud-to-edge middleware stack that can support the data-intensive usage and applications required by the involved SEDs. 

The aim of the call is to support 5G best practice beacons in different sectors that can serve as templates for possible replication with other resources, national or EU, or within other programmes. 

Eligible applicants: legal entities (public or private bodies) from EU countries (including overseas countries and territories (OCTs), countries affiliated to the CEF Program.The partnership is binding. Proposals must be submitted by at least two applicants (users; no affiliates), including at least:• the entity that introduces mobile networks and manages them (hereinafter "operator" or "MNO") i• public authority or provider of services of general interest.

Call budget: EUR 50,000,000.00 

Financing rate: 75% 

Estimated support per project: it is expected that project budgets (maximum amountgrants) amount to between EUR 300,000.00 and EUR 5,000,000.00 per project.
