ABOUT THAT MECHANISM
The ITU mechanism is one of the tools used to encourage integrated territorial development through European Union funds. In order to strengthen the territorial approach of the ITU mechanism from the period 2014-2020. it was expanded to a total of 22 cities with urban areas. The basis for the implementation of the ITU mechanism is the development strategies of urban areas, that is, territorial strategies in which urban areas determine their development goals and priorities, as well as key strategic projects.
Financial support to urban areas in achieving their goals is provided from EU funds through calls for submission of project proposals published by the Ministry in accordance with program documents for the use of EU funds. In this particular case, support for urban areas is planned within the Integrated Territorial Program 2021-2027, which was approved at the beginning of December, and through which an allocation of as much as 681.27 million euros was secured for the sustainable development of urban areas in Croatia.
