European Heritage Stories is a grant-making initiative for innovative projects developed by local communities across Europe.

It is organized by the European Commission and the Council of Europe.

The call aims to identify the European dimension of heritage sites and heritage work undertaken by communities in Europe. It refers to past or existing stories that communities would like to share and potentially develop into a project to further contribute to their communities.

European Heritage Days are events that bring European citizens together to celebrate, share and support the work undertaken by communities in Europe. Their pan-European nature helps to highlight the European dimension and value of cultural heritage.With Stories of European Heritage, communities across the continent are invited to share their special stories about European cultural heritage.

The call aims to:

·encourage people to deal with European cultural heritage and strengthen the feeling of belonging to the European common space

·collect testimonies/stories that give insight into how communities understand the European dimension of local heritage

·to identify and promote communities that work with heritage in accordance with European values ​​and with a long-term perspective of cooperation

·reward communities for their efforts and encourage them to further develop their stories

·motivate and encourage communities, winners of the European Heritage Award/Europa Nostra Award and sites with the European Heritage Label to participate in the European Heritage Days.

All stories that meet the eligibility criteria will be published as European Heritage Day stories, promoted at the European level and will receive support of up to 10,000 euros.The 20 highest-ranked applications will be shortlisted and will be invited to participate in the next stage of the grant awarding tender process. 

The deadline for applications is February 28, 2023.

The winners will be announced on June 15, 2023.
