Sustainable products: The Commission is consulted on new priorities for products

The Commission has launched a public online consultation on which products should be prioritized under the proposed Ecodesign Regulation for sustainable products.

The goal of the new law is to increase the sustainability of products on the EU market by improving their circularity, energy efficiency and other aspects of environmental sustainability during the entire life cycle, from the design phase to daily use and end of life. The new requirements in the areas of efficiency and information are known as "ecological design requirements".
The rules under the proposed Ecodesign Regulation for sustainable products will be established for each product individually or for groups of products with similar features. The Commission is therefore seeking opinions on the categories of new products and the measures that the new law must contain in order to establish priorities in a transparent and inclusive manner.
The consultation will be open for 12 weeks until 25 April 2023 and is available here.
The commission plans to organize an online event where the public consultation and the preliminary JRC analysis on which the consultation is based will be presented.
