The call for applications for the EU organic awards in 2023 is open.
Increasing organic production significantly contributes to reducing the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides and antimicrobial agents and has a positive impact on the climate, environment, biodiversity and animal welfare. This is why it has been determined that organic production plays a key role in achieving the goals of the European green deal , „Strategy from farm to fork" andBiodiversity strategy. Following the above, a goal of 25% of EU agricultural land under organic cultivation by 2030 was defined, as well as a significant increase in organic aquaculture. To support this goal, in March 2021 the Commission adopted an Action plan for the development of ecological production, including the launch of annual awards recognizing excellence in the ecological value chain. These awards will be given a second time in 2023.
The objective of the EU Awards for Organic Production is to reward the various actors in the entire ecological value chain who have developed innovative, sustainable and inspiring projects, creating real added value for organic production and consumption. The awards were jointly organized by the European Committee of the Regions, the European Commission, the European Economic and Social Committee, COPA-COGECA and IFOAM Organics Europe.
Eligible applicants: any actor or institution in the organic farming value chain with a significant project contributing to greater availability of organic products in the EU. Project promoters must have a place of business or residence in the EU.
There are eight awards in seven different categories, three of which are awarded by the European Committee of the Regions: for the best organic region, the best organic city and the best bio-district.
