Webinar: Potential of Public Procurement in the Transition towards Circularity

The theme for this webinar is Circular Public Procurement. The webinar will explore the European Commission initiatives on sustainable public procurement and how they can help local and regional authorities.

It will also present Horizon projects on circular public procurement and practical examples from cities leading the way, including challenges and ways forward. This event is the fourth in the CCRI’s series of webinars, which have previously focused on the CCRI MethodologyHorizon Europe calls for proposals, and monitoring the transition to a circular economy

This online event is open to any interested circular economy stakeholders, including but not limited to CCRI stakeholders and city/regional representatives. If you are interested, please save the date and keep an eye out for further news.

Public procurement represents around 14% of the GDP in the EU, amounting to a staggering 2 trillion EUR spent every year by public authorities on goods and services. Undoubtedly, it i san extremly promising tool for inducing system change towards sustainability. How can this powerful tool be deployed to accelerate the transition to circular economy? How can the EU initiatives and projects can help local and regional authorities in this field? What are the most promising pathways? What are the remaining challenges?

We will start at the EU level, first discussing the strategic work that the European Commission is doing, including the Big Buyers Initiative. We will then turn to 2 selected EU-funded projects to learn from their experience and to explore what they offer to other cities and regions. We will complete the circle with 2 inspiring examples from the practitioners on the ground. Join us to explore this inspiring but challenging topic and interact with the speakers and other attendees! 

Together we will explore:

  • The European Commission initiatives on sustainable public procurement and how it can help local and regional authorities
  • EU-funded projects on circular public procurement (ProCirc and BRINC)
  • Practical examples from cities leading the way: challenges and the way forward.
