Awarding of the New European Bauhaus 2023

In Brussels on 22 June, the New European Bauhaus Prizes 2023 will award 15 winners of the competition for innovative solutions from people across Europe and beyond, demonstrating the immense potential for making Europe more sustainable, beautiful, and inclusive.

This year, it will take place in the context of an event dedicated to the NEB and cohesion policy: ‘NEB in Regions and Cities’.

The event will gather over 250 people in Brussels, from creators of NEB projects and implementers of cohesion policy to local actors from across the EU. It is the perfect occasion to inspire policy actors with examples of how the NEB is transforming our living spaces, and to promote the implementation of the initiative by fostering mutual learning to overcome the challenges that are still faced when implementing the NEB.

The NEB Prizes 2023 is the third edition of the competition. Out of 1 458 applications received, 61 were shortlisted as finalists, from all 27 EU Members States and 6 Western Balkans partner countries. These projects tackle a wide range of issues and challenges: restoration of natural habitats, development of new recycling methods and sustainable products, transformation of disused industrial sites and run-down urban areas into community centres and gardens, development of school playgrounds, and educational programmes to preserve heritage and cultural traditions.

The New European Bauhaus (NEB) Prizes have emerged as a powerful catalyst for change, encouraging all citizens to contribute to making the EU’s ambitious Green Deal a reality in our lives. The NEB Prizes attract a range of talented individuals, groups, and institutions, all driven by a commitment to shaping a better Europe.

From architects and designers to community organisations and entrepreneurs, participants contribute their unique perspectives and creative solutions, which demonstrate that the sustainable solutions promoted by the European Green Deal can also be inclusive and beautiful.

The New European Bauhaus strives to ensure that, as envisaged in the Green Deal,  care for the environment is reflected in our lifestyles and the places where we live and work.

The initiative and prizes encourage people to turn their ideas into start-up ventures and businesses, which can be developed further with the help of EU funding.
