During the one-week professional practice program, employees of the Public Institution County Development Agency of Osijek-Baranja County stayed in Brussels, among them was the deputy director Sandra Udovičić.
On the first day of professional practice, colleagues had the opportunity to learn more about the work of the EU Council from the Minister of Cohesion Policy, Macroregional Strategies and Outermost Regions Ivan Zeka-Pivač, also from Osijek. The Council of the EU is the place where the voice of the governments of the EU member states is heard. The Permanent Representation of the Republic of Croatia to the European Union is the key voice of Croatian interests.
Among the first activities of professional practice, we held a meeting in the Representative Office of the South Moravian Region from the Czech Republic in Brussels with the head of the office, Vendula Nováčková. The topic of the meeting was the previous work of the Representative Office as well as topics that are currently high on the list of priorities of this Czech region as well as the capital city of Brno. Brno, as a university city, puts innovations in the focus of regional development. The area in which the Osijek-Baranja County is making progress as well as strategic projects. Also, the colleagues presented the work of the Public Institution County Development Agency of Osijek-Baranja County as well as strategic projects that were implemented in the area of Osijek-Baranja County.
During the visit to the European Committee of the Regions, the colleagues had the opportunity to learn more about the work of the committee, with an emphasis on the activities of the Croatian delegation at the European Committee of the Regions, from Suzana Matvejević from Zagreb, an employee of the European Committee of the Regions.
Part of the professional practice was a visit to the House of European History, which, through a permanent exhibition and interpreting history from a European perspective, connects and compares common experiences and their different understandings. The goal is to initiate learning about transnational perspectives across Europe and to provide a link for all European citizens.
On the third day of professional practice, we visited the European Parliament and held a meeting with MP Željana Zovko. We talked about the work of the representative's office. Representative Zovko is the vice-president of the European People's Party, vice-president of the Foreign Affairs Committee and vice-president of the Delegation for relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo of the European Parliament. The topic of the meeting was the preservation of cultural heritage. Cultural heritage is one of the central topics of the MP's work, as well as one of the priorities of the Osijek-Baranja County.
Professional practice in the office of the Representative Office enabled the employees of the Public Institution County Development Agency of Osijek-Baranja County to review the European Union through several perspectives: regional, national, European, legislative and historical.
