The presidency of the Council of the European Union has taken over Germany

After Croatia, which chaired the Council of the European Union from 1 January to 30 June 2020, on 1 July 2020, Germany took over the presidency of the Council of the EU.

The priorities of the German presidency are guided by his slogan: "Together for the recovery of Europe".

The presidency's program focuses on six main areas, namely:

  • long-term overcoming of the consequences of the coronavirus crisis and economic and social recovery
  • a stronger and more innovative Europe
  • a just Europe
  • sustainable Europe
  • A Europe of security and shared values
  • a strong Europe in the world.

The German Presidency of the Council of the EU will focus directly on overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic, fighting the spread of the virus, supporting the European economy for recovery and strengthening social cohesion in Europe. To achieve this, Germany is committed to jointly approved action, European solidarity and common values.
