At the end of September 2020, the European Commission adopted two initiatives that will strengthen the contribution of education and training to the EU's recovery from the coronavirus crisis and contribute to building a green and digital Europe.
In the vision of a European education area to be achieved by 2025, the Commission proposes new initiatives, greater investment and more cooperation between Member States to help all Europeans, of all ages, take advantage of the EU's rich education and training offer. The Commission also adopted a new action plan for digital education, which includes lessons learned from the coronavirus crisis and details of achieving a successful digital education ecosystem with enhanced digital competences for digital transformation.
The Communication on the European Education Area states that cooperation can improve the quality, inclusiveness and digital and green dimension of Member States' education systems. Member States can work together to create a European education area based on the freedom of pupils and students to learn and teachers to work anywhere in Europe, and the freedom of educational institutions to connect with each other in Europe and beyond.
