Negotiators between the European Parliament and the Council have reached an interim agreement on the EU's Erasmus + program for the period 2021-2027.
The agreement is worth more than 26 billion euros. They have managed to secure an additional € 2.2 billion over seven years, or the opportunity to fund more than € 26 billion in training, education and more. They also ensured the involvement of more people through the use of the program and the proper funding of the three initiatives that have been successfully piloted since 2018. - Centers of Professional Excellence, DiscoverEU and European universities.
So far, Erasmus + has had a low level of participation among people with fewer opportunities and this needs to change. Those who have missed in the past will significantly improve access to learning and mobility, through special provisions that have been inserted. Also, stronger oversight and decision-making role should be established over the next seven years, which should contribute to greater democracy of the Program.
The new edition of Erasmus + includes special measures that allow more people with fewer opportunities to participate, regardless of whether these disadvantages are due to disability, poverty, distance, migrant origin, etc. It will also be possible to provide grants, including advance payments for those who need to pay the initial costs.
In the new financial period, the Program provides lifelong learning for adult students, in order to better adapt to the changes caused by green and digital transitions, and the need to acquire new work and life skills.
The Erasmus + program will have a simplified approach and will require less paperwork, and should contribute to a green contribution by stimulating climate goals
