The European Commission has approved an investment worth more than 55m euros from the European Regional Development Fund to replace more than 68km of Zagreb's heating system pipes with a more reliable and efficient network.
This large EU project for the Croatian capital will reduce heat and water losses and make the system compatible with renewable heating sources.
With this investment, EU cohesion policy is once again proving its value in fostering regional energy efficiency in order to improve the quality of life of citizens while protecting the environment and supporting the green transition.
The modernized heating system will provide greater comfort to the people of Zagreb, especially in winter. Moreover, by reducing maintenance costs and lower consumption of natural gas for water heating, the project will contribute to lower carbon emissions. The works will be performed during the summer of 2021-2023. to avoid inconvenience to residents.
