E-workshop: Living rivers, a driver of sustainable regional development

On Thursday 27 May 2021 from 14:00 to 17:00 CET the Policy Learning Platform will host an on-line thematic workshop on the topic of 'Living rivers, a driver of sustainable regional development'.

By joining this event you will learn how to restore rivers and wetlands and their ecosystem services and discover how this may give rise to sustainable development opportunities based on the valorisation of the natural and cultural heritage of your region.

Here is what Marco Citelli, one of the Thematic Expert and host of the event thinks: 'There are multiple benefits to protecting and restoring freshwater ecosystems and the natural functions of rivers as highlighted by the EU 3020 Biodiversity Strategy and the new EU Strategy on Adaptation to Climate Change'. These benefits include:

  • Achieving the environmental objectives of the Water Framework Directive;
  • Improving climate resilience of cities and regions;
  • Boosting socio-economic activities such as sustainable tourism and recreation;

What to expect from the event?

Insights into policies to protect and promote rivers as drivers for sustainable regional development, knowledge of common challenges faced by peer regions, identification of potential solutions, exchange with other participants, collaboration and networking with experts.

Registration is now open.

The draft event agenda is available here.
