European Summit of Regions and Cities

Every two years, the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) organizes a European Summit of Regions and Cities.

These meetings bring together elected representatives of regional and local authorities to discuss the main challenges facing the European Union.

The 9th European Summit of Regions and Cities is planned as a hybrid event on 3-4 March 2022 in Marseille.
The summit aims to increase the impact and reach of the Conference on the Future of Europe. The voices of regions and cities must be heard and heard because they are key contributions to the European project and play a key role in putting citizens at the heart of Europe.
This event will bring together high-level participants and facilitate political exchange on the major societal challenges currently facing cities and regions. Discussions will focus on resilience and how to strive for it, in terms of health, climate change and digitalisation.

Participants will also explore topics related to cohesion and recovery. Local and regional leaders will seek the most effective models for implementing both urban and rural recovery and explore possibilities for cooperation within and beyond their borders by 2050. The future of the European Union will also be viewed from the perspective of its enlargement policy and renewed Euro-Mediterranean partnership.
The meeting will further facilitate in-depth discussions on democracy, with a special focus on women in local politics and youth engagement.
It will also be an opportunity for the CoR to present its contribution to the Conference on the Future of Europe at the Marseille Summit, one week before the Conference's last plenary session.
