Conference on the Future of Europe

On Europe Day the Conference on the Future of Europe was concluded and the Presidents of the European Parliament, the Commission and the Council received a final report with proposals for EU reform.

The Conference on the Future of Europe was a new and innovative process, a bottom-up exercise for Europeans to express their views on what they expect from the European Union. The Conference was attended by European citizens of different geographical backgrounds, genders, ages, socio-economic backgrounds and / or levels of education, with young Europeans playing a central role.

This one-year journey of unprecedented debate, debate and cooperation between citizens and politicians culminated in a report focusing on 49 proposals that include concrete objectives and more than 320 measures to be monitored by the EU institutions under nine themes: climate change and the environment; health; a stronger economy, social justice and jobs; The EU in the world; values ​​and rights, rule of law, security, digital transformation, European democracy, migration, education, culture, youth and sport.

The proposals are based on the recommendations of citizens who met within the European Citizens 'Panels, national citizens' panels and gave their ideas on the Multilingual Digital Platform.

Over the past year, through a host of events and debates organized across the EU, national and European citizens' panels, plenary meetings and exchanges on a dedicated Multilingual Digital Platform, the Conference has become a truly open forum for discussing the Europe we want. and a structured discussion with European citizens on issues that are important to them and their future.

Next steps in this process - the three institutions need to examine how to act effectively on these proposals, each within its own areas of competence and in accordance with the Treaties.
