The Commission has launched a new call for proposals for key EU cross-border energy infrastructure projects under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) for energy.
Intended as part of today’s REPowerEU plan, the call contributes to the EU’s goal of increasing the resilience of the EU-wide energy system to gradually remove our dependence on fossil fuels from Russia well before 2030.
With an estimated budget of up to € 800 million available to co-finance grants for studies or works, the call is open to projects on the 5th Union List of Projects of Common Interest (PCI) published in November 2021. 5. The PCI list includes 67 electricity transmission and storage projects, 20 gas projects, six CO2 network projects and five smart grid projects. Applications for funding must be submitted by September 1, 2022 [17:00 CET]. Successful projects will be selected before the end of 2022.
The CEF Energy info call for proposals will be held on 8 June.
The general objective of this call is to support works and studies that will enable the implementation of PCI in the development of trans-European networks in the energy sector.
Works include the purchase, procurement and implementation of components, systems and services including software, development, construction and installation activities related to PCI, acceptance of installations and launch of PCI.
The studies include activities necessary to prepare for the implementation of PCI, such as preparation, mapping, feasibility studies, evaluations, testing and validation, including in the form of software, and all other technical support measures, including previous actions to define and develop PCI and deciding on its financing, such as reconnaissance of the places concerned and preparation of the financial package.
