The Call for Design inclusive, safe, affordable and sustainable urban mobility under Horizon Europe has been launched.
The results of the project are expected to contribute to the following:
• The mission's goals of climate-neutral and smart cities are to accelerate the transition to climate neutrality in cities by promoting zero-emission mobility, common, active and human-centered.
• Increase the scope and speed of acceptance and promotion of innovative, best practices and safe, affordable and sustainable urban mobility solutions that can be replicated in the living laboratories involved in the proposals [(at least four cities / projects and four follower cities, taking into account geographical diversity , inter alia, on the level of development of the regions), while facilitating joint lessons and learning at European level, in order to contribute to the priority objectives of the Zero Pollution Action Plan, the Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy and the EU Security Policy Framework. roads for the period 2021-2030 with the aim of reducing by 50% for deaths as well as for serious injuries by 2030.
• Solutions for at least ten insecure areas / living laboratories in urban / suburban areas through innovative approaches to planning, design and implementation, including but not limited to joint creation and / or citizen engagement, modeling and artificial intelligence, digital and smart tools for implementation, dynamic redistribution of space in order to reduce the risk to road safety, reduce exposure to air and noise pollution and perceived insecurity for pedestrians and cyclists.
• Re-evaluate the quality of roads and public spaces that meet the needs of different groups (examples include, but are not limited to: women, children, people with disabilities and the elderly); measures may include, but are not limited to, improving the collection of data on pedestrian, bicycle and e-scooter traffic, as well as mechanisms for reporting pedestrians and cyclists, injuries and deaths on e-scooters.• Addressing the proactive potential risk arising from the expected increase in the number of cyclists and e-scooters.
• Addressing the proactive potential risk arising from the expected increase in the number of cyclists and e-scooters.
• Rebalance the attribution of public space to different modes of transport to better reflect the actual or desired local modal division, as well as support in achieving Vision Zero and zero-emission targets, thus increasing road safety and quality of life in cities.
• Public space redesign measures targeting awarded projects should take into account the principles of the circular economy, adaptation to climate change (especially heat waves), cross-sectoral synergies and should not be at the cost of removing or deteriorating parks, trees or green recreation areas. Scope:The European Union is facing a multitude of interrelated demographic, public health and environmental challenges: climate change, road deaths are stagnating, urbanization is growing, air quality standards continue to be violated in more than 100 cities, obesity is growing and the population is aging. However, at local, national and EU level, it is increasingly recognized that strengthening the level of active mobility, especially walking and cycling, can play an important role in overcoming many of these challenges. Such a policy will also have economic benefits. According to conservative estimates, even the current level of cycling in the EU brings benefits worth around 150 billion euros a year.
