A call for CrAFt cities is open, seeking 70 CrAFt candidate cities who want to test and share transformation models, get support for implementation and become role models for cities across Europe.

The group of CrAFt cities will include a geographically balanced mix of cities selected from among mission cities, cities that applied under the mission, cities involved in NEB demonstrator projects and other NEB initiatives, and additional cities of high interest. Small and medium-sized cities are especially encouraged to apply.

Eligible applicants:
• EU mission cities
• Candidate cities for EU missions
• Other European and world cities of interest, NEB Lighthouse projects.

CrAFt cities will be chosen according to the following eligibility criteria, evaluation:
• 70 cities will be chosen from among cities from EU member states or countries with an Agreement on Accession to the Horizon Europe program or if such an Agreement is in the process of negotiation.
• Cities can participate in the call if they have at least 50,000 inhabitants. Cities from countries with 5 or fewer cities with more than 100,000 inhabitants can express interest if they have more than 10,000 inhabitants. These countries are: Croatia (HR), Cyprus (CY), Estonia (EE), Ireland (IE), Latvia (LV), Lithuania (LT), Luxembourg (LU), Malta (MT), Slovenia (SI) and Slovakia (SK).
• Smaller city groups can apply if they have a combined population of at least 50,000. These cities would have to be geographically connected and show how they can operate
in a coordinated manner, with one coordinating body that has the authority to make decisions and obligations for the entire group.

The deadline for submission of proposals is September 9, 2022.

• Learn from other CrAFt cities
• Balance stakeholder interests, priorities and competencies in the climate city contract
• Make the climate neutrality process more inclusive, empowering and accessible to all
• Use the arts, culture and creative sectors as catalysts in the transition
• Participate in a new generation think/do tank with students and youth communities
• Participate in the storytelling campaign about effective climate-neutral futures
• Draft policy briefs to inform and advise national and European policy makers
• Present your projects in CrAFt events, stories and publications
• Receive first access to the CrAFt impact model and guidance package

The selection of 70 CrAFt cities will be announced during the European Research and Innovation Days on September 29, 2022, and the first event for CrAFt cities is planned for early November, in Prague.
