Webinar: Supporting the rural green transition

The Policy Learning Platform is organizing a webinar on Support to the Rural Green Transition that will be held on September 13, 2022. from 14:00 to 15:30.

Rural areas make a unique and important contribution to our economy and way of life, but are often left out of low-carbon planning and strategies. However, their transition must be supported taking into account their various challenges, such as declining and aging populations, fewer economic and social opportunities, and low population density, which makes infrastructure and service provision a particular challenge.
A green transition can help bring many benefits to rural areas and address these challenges, while providing new services and socio-economic and environmental practices. However, the transition will involve addressing a wide range of areas, including renewable energy and energy efficiency, waste management, mobility, a sustainable agri-food sector and supporting ecosystem services.

Join this webinar to discover the main challenges facing rural areas and benefit from good practices identified by the Interreg Europe community and beyond.

Topics to be covered:
• Keynote presentation by Linda Zardo from IUAV di Venezia University (IRENES Project) on the role of rural areas in the low carbon transition
• Presentation by Manolis Karampinis, from CERTH (BECoop project) on tools to support bioenergy communities
• Presentation of Alexandros Papachatzis from the University of Thessaly (MED greenhouse) on green growth through capitalization of innovative greenhouses
• Presentation by Manfred Mair from Regional Management Osttirol (LAST MILE project) on rural mobility in East Tyrol and small towns
