A new call to present best practices and assume climate commitments

The European Committee of the Regions (CoR) once again invites its members and their deputies, young elected politicians and members of the CoR's network of local and regional advisors to identify and promote best practices related to low-carbon and sustainable projects, as well as to commit to reducing greenhouse gas emissions in local and regional self-government units throughout the EU.

The COVID-19 pandemic and the energy crisis caused by the war in Ukraine have shown how important the close interaction of the environment and people is. At the same time, threatening natural hazards, environmental risks, ecosystem degradation and global warming are still relevant, so action in the field of climate is more important than ever. Cities and regions are key players in achieving the goals of the European Green Plan and achieving climate neutrality in the EU.

In order to further promote regional and local action aimed at the implementation of the Green Plan, the OR sends a new invitation to all its members and their deputies, young elected politicians and members of the European Network of Regional and Local Advisors for the EU to present best practices and take over climate obligations. Projects will be published on a platform of best practices that show how cities and regions are contributing to the green recovery in an effort to achieve a more sustainable, inclusive and resilient society.
Projects that have recently been implemented or ongoing projects and initiatives in the following areas can be applied for:
• adaptation to climate change
• mitigating climate change
• circular economy
• energy-related issues, such as energy efficiency, energy poverty or energy from renewable sources
• pure mobility
• zero pollution rate
• reforestation and greening of cities
• making a green budget.

Ahead of the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (UNFCCC COP 27), to be held in November 2022 in Sharm El-Sheikh (Egypt), a map of the climate commitments of local and regional authorities will be developed to support the CO's efforts to increase the role of cities and regions in global climate governance and the implementation of the Paris Agreement.

To present your green projects and climate commitments, please complete this short survey.
Projects and commitments will be published on the interactive map of the CoR and presented to EU institutions, stakeholders and the media.
